Homeless in America

Despite the vast wealth of our nation and even though Wall Street executives who nearly destoryed our economy in the last decade are still receiving seven figure bonuses and walking free we still persist in efforts to cut the federal and state budgets by slashing public services to our most needy citizens. In over 30 years of covering issues related to poverty I have found that the vast majority of people who seek public assistance do so only reluctantly and given a little help will be able to get back on their feet and become contributing members of society again. Too bad the same can't be said for Wall Street bankers.

These images are part of an ongoing project about family homelessness in Washington State financed in part by a fellowship at Seattle University funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
